Warrior Queen

A battlefield many years ago dense fog, smoky, gray;
Such sorrow none could have guessed what would transpire that day;
The fighting lasted many years, the intensity and conflict grew;
Unbeknownst to the combatants, two battles merged into one entirely new;
One combatant beaten, broken, bloodied, and consigned to use and being used;
Stumbled across another combatant dying on the field, hard as stone on the outside but hollow within, abused;
An impossible meeting, an impossible time, an impossible place;
So many times before it should have happened but they got in their way – what a waste;
But now bruised, broken, battered, and dying;
They finally let Someone Else do the guiding;
Although broken himself, he began working to tend to her wounds;
But in doing so she saw his pain and began helping him to heal too over many moons;
Their actions weren’t perfect – flawed as they were;
But everyone out of true and selfless love, and passion, and care and nights of magic and allure;
Her words healed his soul, her touch healed his heart;
They grew together as one to never be apart;
But this was no fairy tale – as of yet - no happily ever after;
For something sinister in the shadows sought to this union shatter;
Unexpected attacks on the family within;
With him at war, the battle against this foe she had to herself alone begin;
She fought through her anguish and she did win and saved the new babe within;
Betrayals on every side from those thought to be friend;
Shattered them both but especially him, no hope to mend;
Life completely changed, the dream and vision dead like the loss of a limb;
Life and love both grew dim;
She could have given up the fight and left on her own;
That could have been their tombstone;
But instead she chose to love and lift him up;
Never, ever, ever giving up;
Critically wounded, her legs taken away;
She fought through so she has the strength to walk today;
Through years of attacks by the unseen and injury to the family;
She has always stood steady;
Through many betrayals including those clothed in white;
She’s always continued marching forward trying to do what’s right;
Through wounds suffered that cause chronic pain;
She fights to still bring her family gain;
Through limitless trials, tribulations, struggle, despairs;
You have always chosen to be right there;
Fighting back to back and side to side;
Next to each other against this shadow we will always ride;
You are my confidante, lover, and friend;
As long as we are one, they cannot upend;
Our story isn’t over, still at war, our paradise yet to see;
It’s ok because I have you my Comrade in Arms, my Valkyrie, my Warrior Queen.
